No. Hand Up For Women is NOT a shelter or a residential program. Hand Up For Women is also not a rehab facility, nor a sober-living house.
Any Woman over the age of 18 who is ready to commit to regular attendance and working hard toward becoming Self sufficient is eligible.
No, but you must understand participating in our bible study as part of the program.
Every woman who demonstrate her commitment to the program is paired with a trained mentor.
They serve as a personal support person for you spiritually and emotionally. They meet with you at least once a week, as well as communicating by phone. They are there to advise and encourage you, as well as to serve as a source of accountability for the goals you wish to pursue.
We teach life management skills including improving self-esteem, anger management, assertiveness skills, and healthy boundaries, goal setting, problem-solving, and budgeting. We also address job readiness skills such as how to fill out a job application or prepare a resume, professional ethics and integrity, successful interviewing, or how to dress appropriately for an interview. All classes are informational and discussion-based and no grades are given.
YES- beside computer skills are part of our curriculum One- on-one assistance is also available.
Classes are held for 12 months on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00, with dinner served at 5:15 for those participating. Graduates are always welcomed and encouraged to come to refresh their skills, encourage the current participants, and offer assistance in the classroom.
We are neither a job placement, referral service, or an employment agency. Our focus is to strengthen your life as a whole so that you are better equipped and prepared to seek out and find employment. We can help with job leads, but we cannot get the job for you.
In order to graduate from our program, you must have at least an 80% attendance and participation rate, a productive relationship with their mentor, as well as a current resume.

If you have a car, we can assist you with a gift card for fuel assistance. If you ride the bus, we can provide you with KAT bus passes. THIS ASSISTANCE IS FOR THOSE THAT ARE ATTENDING REGULARLY.
